    Paddy Willis
    CEO and Co-Founder
    Mission Ventures
Paddy Willis is interested in how challenger brands stand out as “discovery foods” when consumers have resorted back to familiar big brands during lockdown. He considers how accentuating purpose and brand values is key to being heard above the noise of a very busy multichannel environment.

Paddy is CEO and Co-Founder of Mission Ventures committed to building better challenger brands. He entered the industry in 2006 as co-founder of Plum Baby, a disruptive premium baby food brand that scaled rapidly and had achieved 65% weighted distribution across the UK within just 18 months of launch, exiting to Darwin Private Equity after five years.

Mission Ventures runs business accelerator programmes for innovative food and drink brands and is the acceleration partner for The Good Food Fund, which is looking at how healthier challenger brands can tackle childhood obesity. Paddy expects to announce shortly the first corporate venturing partnership with one of the UK’s largest food brands, aiming to invest in promising businesses.

    UK Private Companies- Uncertain Times

The Coronavirus epidemic has hit businesses across the world in a short span of time. In the immediate term, the market is focused on how quickly lockdown measures are eased and the pace of recovery in corporate profits. But we also need to consider the potential structural transformations being driven by this public crisis.

We think a post-crisis world will be more indebted, less global, and more digital. We will need to contend with higher taxation, financial repression, and moderately higher inflation, along with populism and protectionism, while navigating the transitions from global to local supply chains, and from physical to digital.

To discuss the current impact and longer term trends for private companies we hosted a call with Paul Donovan, Chief Economist, UBS GWM and Dean Turner, CIO Economist, UBS UK.

The value of investments may fall as well as rise and you may not get back the amount originally invested.
